Infineon Technologies Powers Innovation in Energy Storage with CoolSiC 2000 V Modules
Daihen Corporation Selects Infineon’s SiC Technology for Advanced Power Conditioners in Grid Storage Batteries
Energy Storage: Infineon Technologies AG has announced that its CoolSiC 2000 V modules have been chosen by Daihen Corporation for use in their cutting-edge unit-type power conditioners, specifically designed for grid storage batteries. These power conditioners play a crucial role in supporting the expansion of renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power. As global efforts to reduce carbon emissions intensify, the demand for efficient storage solutions and higher-voltage power conditioners has grown, driven by the need to improve power generation, storage, and transmission.
In response to these needs, Daihen launched its innovative unit-type power conditioner in March 2024, becoming the first in the industry to connect to storage batteries at a high DC link voltage of 1500 V. This technological advancement allows the product to be integrated into large-capacity storage battery facilities and has led to a 40% reduction in the footprint of grid storage batteries compared to previous models, addressing both space and cost challenges in large-scale battery storage installations.
Infineon’s CoolSiC Modules: Driving High Power Density and Efficiency
The 62 mm CoolSiC MOSFET 2000 V module (FF3MR20KM1H) from Infineon is at the heart of Daihen’s power conditioner, offering higher power density and enhanced thermal dissipation. Infineon’s SiC products leverage M1H trench technology, which expands the gate drive voltage range while ensuring reliability against voltage spikes. This innovation not only supports high voltage but also simplifies the inverter circuit design, further reducing system complexity and size.
Infineon was the first in the industry to introduce the 2000 V SiC module, a breakthrough that has streamlined inverter circuit configurations and improved overall system efficiency. The optimized 62 mm package design has resulted in a significant reduction in system size, making these modules ideal for modern energy storage systems that require high performance and compact footprints.
Industry Leaders on Infineon’s Innovation
Commenting on the benefits of Infineon’s technology, Mr. Akihiro Ohori, General Manager of Daihen’s Development Department, stated, “Increasing the voltage of power conditioners with conventional 1200 V devices created complex circuit configurations. By adopting Infineon’s 2000 V SiC modules, we achieved a simplified design and control system, which in turn reduced development time and minimized the overall footprint.”
Masanori Fujimori, Marketing Director of Infineon Technologies Japan’s Industrial & Infrastructure Segment, added, “We are proud that our CoolSiC 2000 V module has enabled the development of the industry’s most power-dense power conditioners for grid storage batteries. Infineon’s SiC technology is set to meet the growing demand for higher efficiency in energy storage systems and will play a key role in supporting the growth of renewable energy.”
A Step Forward in Renewable Energy Solutions
As the renewable energy sector expands, efficient energy storage solutions are essential to maximize the benefits of solar and wind power. With its advanced CoolSiC technology, Infineon continues to lead innovation in energy efficiency, helping companies like Daihen meet the challenges of reducing carbon emissions while improving system performance and scalability.
Infineon’s CoolSiC 2000 V modules are a game-changer for energy storage, allowing for higher voltage systems that not only improve efficiency but also reduce system size, offering a more sustainable and cost-effective solution for grid storage batteries and other renewable energy applications.
