Vishay Intertechnology Introduces New Compact Power Inductors with High-Temperature Operation

Vishay Intertechnology has expanded its portfolio with the introduction of two new power inductors in the 1008 case size (2.5 mm by 2.0 mm by 1.2 mm): the IHLL-1008AB-1Z and the Automotive Grade IHLP-1008ABEZ-5A. These inductors deliver the same performance as their predecessors but with a 55% smaller footprint, while offering higher operating temperatures up to +165 °C, a broader range of inductance values, and lower DCR (direct current resistance).

Key Features

  • Inductance Range: The IHLL-1008AB-1Z offers inductance values between 0.33 µH to 4.7 µH and is designed with terminals plated on the bottom only, which minimizes the land pattern and allows for more compact board layouts.
    The IHLP-1008ABEZ-5A offers 0.15 µH to 2.2 µH and features terminals plated on both the bottom and sides, which provide additional mounting strength against mechanical shocks and simplify solder joint inspection. This AEC-Q200 qualified inductor is capable of operating at +165 °C, which is 10 °C higher than similar inductors on the market, while its typical DCR of 12.0 mΩ is 15% lower than competitors.
  • Robust Construction: Both inductors use a powdered iron body that fully encapsulates the windings, eliminating air gaps and providing magnetic shielding to protect against crosstalk. The soft saturation curve ensures stability across the full range of temperatures and current ratings.
  • Flat Wire Coil Design: The inductors’ flat wire coils directly form the leads, removing the need for a lead frame. This, combined with precision laser stripping and electrode plating, enhances solderability and ensures long-term reliability by withstanding repeated thermal cycles.

Applications

The IHLP-1008ABEZ-5A is ideal for automotive applications, including infotainment, navigation, braking systems, ADAS, LiDAR, sensors, and engine control units. On the other hand, the IHLL-1008AB-1Z is intended for use in CPUs, SSD modules, industrial automation systems, consumer healthcare devices, and telecom equipment, among other fields. Both inductors are designed for DC/DC converters, noise suppression, and filtering applications.

Durability and Compliance

Packaged in a 100% lead-free, shielded composite construction, both inductors feature high resistance to thermal shock, moisture, and mechanical shock, while handling high transient current spikes without saturation. They are also RoHS-compliant, halogen-free, and meet Vishay Green standards.
