STMicroelectronics’ participation at ITAP 2024 showcases its commitment to delivering cutting-edge solutions for industrial automation, AI, IoT, and sustainable technologies.
STMicroelectronics, a global leader in the semiconductor industry, is participating in Industrial Transformation Asia Pacific (ITAP 2024), running from October 14-16 at Booth 3C07. At this event, ST will demonstrate over ten solutions developed in collaboration with its ecosystem partners. These showcases focus on industrial automation, IoT applications, edge AI technologies, motor control solutions, and sustainable power management.
Highlight Demos at ITAP 2024
1. NFC-Powered Electronic Circuit Board (ECB)
STMicroelectronics is unveiling an innovative NFC-powered ECB solution developed in collaboration with Deng Kai Sdn Bhd. This design leverages several ST components, including:
- ST25R NFC reader
- ST25DV dynamic tag
- STM32G0 microcontroller (MCU)
- LDO voltage regulator
The system harvests energy from electromagnetic fields generated by an active NFC reader, converting it into electrical power—allowing the board to operate without batteries. This first-of-its-kind energy-harvesting technology offers a sustainable and cost-effective solution for low-power devices, promoting eco-friendly design by eliminating the need for battery replacements.
2. Multi-Pose Estimation with Edge AI
ST is demonstrating its X-Linux-AI open-source software ecosystem, which supports edge AI applications in industrial automation and IoT. The demo showcases multi-pose estimation capabilities using the STM32MP2 microprocessor, which offers advanced security and enhanced connectivity for industrial environments. This microprocessor helps manufacturers deploy AI-based solutions seamlessly, improving automation processes with real-time decision-making capabilities.
3. Servo Drives Orchestra for Precision Motor Control
The Servo Drives Orchestra demo highlights coordinated motor control through eight motor modules, each built using four different reference designs with power ratings ranging from 500 W to 22 kW. These motors are synchronized to move ropes with precision, simulating real-world industrial operations. An HMI interface on the control podium allows users to adjust motor modes. Additionally, each motor gathers temperature and vibration data to monitor operating conditions and sends the information wirelessly to Baidu Cloud for predictive maintenance and energy-saving recommendations.
4. STSPIN-Based Dual Motor Control
ST is also featuring the EVSPIN32G4-DUAL demo board, designed for dual motor control using the STSPIN32G4 and STDRIVE101 chips. The STSPIN32G4 integrates a microcontroller (STM32G431) along with three half-bridge gate drivers into a compact 9×9 mm VFQFPN package. Meanwhile, the STDRIVE101 adds further motor control capabilities with 600mA current support in a compact 4×4 mm VFQPN package. This dual motor system is ideal for industrial applications requiring high precision, such as robotics and manufacturing automation.
Advanced Sensor Solutions for AI-Driven Applications
1. Intelligent Sensors for Motion Tracking
ST’s latest generation of sensors is designed to support AI and edge computing applications. Two key sensors, the LSM6DSO16IS and ISM330IS, are optimized for industrial condition monitoring and gesture tracking. Both feature an Intelligent Sensor Processing Unit (ISPU) with an embedded DSP core that allows users to implement Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) and other AI algorithms directly on the sensor.
- IMU Sensors: The LSM6DSV for consumer markets and the ISM330BX for industrial use offer sensor fusion capabilities by combining data from accelerometers, gyroscopes, and magnetometers. The result is quaternion-based 3D orientation tracking, improving predictive monitoring and enabling precise gesture recognition.
STM32 Solutions for Industrial Applications
1. Graphics Solutions for Industrial and Smart Applications
STMicroelectronics offers STM32 MCUs designed for a range of applications, from high-performance solutions to ultra-low-power devices:
- STM32H7 series: Powered by a 32-bit Arm Cortex-M7 core running at up to 600 MHz, this series delivers high processing power suitable for complex applications, such as HMI interfaces and industrial sensors.
- STM32U5 series: Optimized for power efficiency, the STM32U5 offers advanced energy-saving features for applications in wearables, home automation, and personal medical devices.
2. Sustainable Technology with STM32U0 Series
The STM32U0 series is part of ST’s ultra-low-power product line, offering up to 50% less power consumption compared to previous generations. This reduction in energy usage enables designs that can run on energy-harvesting systems, such as small photovoltaic cells, eliminating the need for batteries. These microcontrollers are ideal for applications that prioritize sustainability and longer product lifespans.
3. Wireless Connectivity and Matter Protocol Support
ST’s wireless solutions cover all Matter-compatible device types, promoting seamless integration across smart homes and smart building ecosystems. For example, the Electronic Shelf Label (ESL) demo shows how ST’s STM32WB0 MCU can improve operational efficiency in retail environments. Matter ensures smooth interoperability across multiple smart devices, making it easier to create connected systems that work across various IP technologies.
