Renesas Expands R-Car SoC Family for Entry-Level ADAS with New R-Car V4M and V4H Series

High-Performance AI and Power Efficiency for Front Smart Cameras, Surround-View, and Driver Monitoring Systems

Renesas Electronics Corporation, a leading supplier of advanced semiconductor solutions, has expanded its R-Car Family of system-on-chips (SoCs), introducing the new R-Car V4M series and expanding the R-Car V4H series. These new devices deliver robust AI processing capabilities and fast CPU performance while optimizing power consumption, making them ideal for entry-level Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) applications, including front smart cameras, surround-view systems, automatic parking, and driver monitoring.

Advanced Features of R-Car V4M and V4H Series

Built on the same advanced 7-nm manufacturing process as the R-Car V4H series, the R-Car V4M delivers up to 17 TOPS of deep learning performance and excels in high-speed image processing and precise object recognition using cameras, radar, and LiDAR. Designed for scalability, these devices offer advanced AI technology, power efficiency, and compatibility, providing automotive manufacturers with flexible options across the ADAS spectrum. The new devices are pin-compatible and share software compatibility with existing R-Car products, allowing OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers to reuse existing software and reduce engineering costs.

Meeting the Demand for Level 1 and 2 ADAS Solutions

Renesas is responding to the growing demand for Level 1 and Level 2 ADAS solutions in mass-market vehicles. The new R-Car SoCs offer 9 TOPS/W power efficiency, enabling smart cameras with an 8-megapixel sensor to consume approximately 50% less power than competing devices. With four Arm® Cortex®-A76 cores and three Arm Cortex-R52 lockstep cores, the R-Car V4M and V4H series provide powerful application processing while supporting ASIL D real-time operation for enhanced safety.

R-Car Open Access (RoX) Platform for SDV Development

Renesas also launched the R-Car Open Access (RoX) platform for Software-Defined Vehicle (SDV) development. RoX integrates all essential hardware, operating systems, software, and tools needed for automotive engineers to design next-generation vehicles with secure, continuous software updates. This platform allows OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers to design scalable solutions for ADAS, IVI, gateway systems, and more.

Key Features of R-Car V4M and V4H Series:

  • Up to four Arm® Cortex®-A76 cores for application processing
  • Three Arm Cortex-R52 lockstep cores supporting ASIL D real-time operation
  • Dedicated AI deep learning and computer vision IP
  • 3D GPU and Image Signal Processor (ISP)
  • Fisheye distortion correction and low power consumption
  • Fast boot for camera display in under one second
  • Scalability across the R-Car Family with support for ADAS, body control, and domain control systems

Availability

Renesas is currently sampling the R-Car V4M and R-Car V4H devices to leading automotive manufacturers, with mass production planned for Q1 2026. These new SoCs provide a cost-effective solution for entry-level ADAS applications while ensuring robust performance and power efficiency.
