Viavi Solutions Unveils Next-Generation Optical Connector Inspection and Ethernet Testing Solutions at ECOC 2024
New FVAM-2000 inspection tool and ONE-1600 Ethernet test module aim to support 800G and 1.6Tb/s transceiver ecosystems, advancing optical communication technologies and streamlining manufacturing workflows.
Viavi Solutions has introduced a new optical connector inspection tool designed for next-generation transceivers. The FVAM-2000, the latest in Viavi’s benchtop microscopy line, will be featured along with other new optical and Ethernet testing products at VIAVI Stand A1 during ECOC 2024, scheduled for September 23-25 in Frankfurt, Germany. ECOC is the largest optical communication technology exhibition in Europe.
With the increasing use of parallel optic connectors, such as multi-fiber push on (MPO), new and more advanced inspection methods are required to streamline operations in manufacturing. The FVAM-2000 meets this demand by providing inspection capabilities for MPO and other bulkhead connectors designed for 800G formats, like octal small form factor pluggable (OSFP) and quad small form factor pluggable (QSFP) connectors. This new solution features an easily attachable and changeable connector interface for bulkhead devices and leverages Viavi’s next-generation panoptic microscope engine, which delivers brighter, higher-contrast images and improved panning performance. It also includes an advanced automation framework, enabling integration into a PC-driven workflow—ideal for high-volume manufacturing environments.
Viavi will also demonstrate its newly launched ONE-1600, a 1.6Tb/s Ethernet test module that addresses the testing and validation requirements of the developing 1.6Tb/s ecosystem. The ONE-1600 is the latest addition to the ONE LabPro platform, a 1.6Tb/s testing system with a web-based interface that provides multi-port, multi-flow Layer 2/3 testing across various data rates. It is designed for emerging AI, ML, quantum computing, and high-performance computing applications.
Jim Theodoras, Vice President of Research and Development at Genuine Optics, commented on the industry’s progress, stating, “As we move towards 1.6T speeds, Genuine Optics is proud to lead the way with high-performance optical transceivers that open up new possibilities for data centers and AI applications. Our collaboration with VIAVI has been vital in advancing this innovation, ensuring seamless testing of our 1.6T solutions. This milestone sets a new benchmark for speed and paves the way for future technological advancements.”
The ONT-800 Optical Network Testing platform will also be displayed at the Viavi booth, featuring demonstrations of its ZR and ZR+ capable ONT 800G Flex XPM Module. Viavi’s customers, including Coherent and InnoLight, will use the ONT in their exhibits to showcase their latest technologies. Coherent will validate its 800G-DR4 transceiver with 4x200G Differential Electro-absorption Modulated Lasers (EML) using the ONT, while InnoLight will demonstrate its 800G ZR OSFP and 400G ZR DCO high-power transceivers.
Tom Fawcett, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Lab & Production at Viavi, added, “We’re excited to showcase our latest innovations at ECOC 2024, continuing to invest in and improve our industry-leading platforms. We are pleased to see so many of our customers using our testing solutions in their demonstrations to validate their newest technologies.”
Additionally, Viavi will present its Full Band Optical Spectrum Analyzer (mOSA) and High-Density Optical Power Meter (mOPM-C2B) modules from the MAP (Multiple Application Platform) product line. These modules offer significant advancements in the MAP Series, providing highly compact and dense solutions for the industry.
