Würth Elektronik to Showcase Innovations in Vertical Farming at VertiFarm 2024
VertiFarm 2024: Würth Elektronik has been actively supporting indoor vertical farming and algae cultivation through research & collaborations
Würth Elektronik, a leading provider of electronic and electromechanical components, will have its own stand at VertiFarm, the first trade fair dedicated to vertical farming and new food technologies. At this event, Würth Elektronik will demonstrate how its products and expertise are driving innovations in plant and algae production.
Alexander Gerfer, CTO at Würth Elektronik eiSos, emphasized the importance of improving agricultural efficiency, stating, “With a growing global population, climate change, and increasing transportation costs, we must make crop production more efficient, eco-friendly, and consumer-centric. Vertical farming is a crucial and necessary supplement to traditional agriculture.”
Innovative Solutions on Display
Würth Elektronik has been actively supporting indoor vertical farming and algae cultivation through research and collaborations with startups. At booth 2.B02, the company will showcase how it enhances vertical farming projects with plant-optimized lighting, using specialized horticulture LEDs and modern sensor and communication technology. “At VertiFarm, we will present what is already achievable today, through concepts we have helped develop and components we can supply immediately from stock in large quantities,” said Gerfer.
Tailored Plant Cultivation
Johann Waldherr, Business Development Manager for Electronic Power & Lighting Solutions at Würth Elektronik eiSos, highlighted the benefits of indoor cultivation, explaining that the controlled environment allows for precise optimization of plant growth. “With plant-specific lighting, we can influence, maximize, and standardize the development of key ingredients,” he said. Waldherr will further explore this topic in his presentation titled “Sustainable Lighting Concepts for Indoor Cannabis Farming in Repurposed Agricultural Spaces”, on October 10 at 10:45 a.m. on the VertiFarm Stage in Hall 2.
