The choice is not just a matter of budget. Here are the concrete criteria that guide the decision on site:

  • Expected load: for simple OSB cladding without heavy shelves, mechanical anchoring with plugs suitable for the support is sufficient. As soon as we plan to suspend tools, storage, or heavy insulation, chemical anchoring offers better resistance to pull-out.
  • Condition of the support: on new and healthy blocks, both options work. On old, crumbling, or moisture-exposed blocks, chemical anchoring with a sleeve remains the only reliable option.
  • Installation temperature: chemical anchoring requires correct polymerization conditions. In extreme cold, mechanical anchoring suitable for the support avoids unpleasant surprises.
  • Reversibility: a mechanical anchor can be disassembled. A chemical anchor, once polymerized, remains in place permanently.

Field feedback varies on the long-term resistance of universal plugs on loaded hollow blocks. In case of doubt about the hold, chemical anchoring with a sleeve provides a safety margin that mechanical anchoring alone does not always guarantee.
